ISO and UNDP Release First Global Standard for UN SDG Management
A new international standard, ISO/UNDP 53001, aims to help organizations systematically align operations with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The International Organization for Standardization and the United Nations Development Programme jointly launched ISO/UNDP 53001 on Sept. 28, 2026, marking the debut of the world's first International Standard dedicated to management systems built around the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The announcement came from Paris on the opening day of the ISO Annual Meeting.

By establishing common requirements, it is designed to bring measurability and accountability to sustainability efforts that have historically varied widely across sectors and geographies.

A universally accepted management-system standard could reduce fragmentation in reporting practices and give auditors a common baseline against which to evaluate organizational claims.
